Description
National Velvet is an Obelisk standing 20 feet tall.  It has two parts, the aluminum base, and the red fiberglass sculpure.  The interior is hollow and lit internally with a "tree" of compact florescent lights.  A dedicated line was installed through directional boring and runs to a service panel on the plaza.  The aluminum base is fastened to engineered concrete foundation, and the sculpture is bolted to an internal flange on the aluminum pedestal.  The surface of the sculptrlue is painted with a marine paint that is also translucent.  The base is painted with a corrosian resistant silver paint.  The north face of the pedestal is the access panel, which is fastened with tamper resistant allen sockets.
